As 2024 draws to a close, we can look back proudly on an eventful and successful year. Together, we have demonstrated our expertise in forward-looking areas. Here are some highlights from our year 2024 at SRC Security Research & Consulting GmbH:
Innovations in payment transactions
The girocard system took a significant step forward in 2024: together with EURO Kartensysteme, a specialist concept was developed for DK that covers new fields of application such as POS-related in-app transactions and innovative technologies such as autonomous stores. SRC provided significant support for the implementation by creating and coordinating the Technical Annex 8.0 of the girocard agreement with DK, while at the same time laying the foundations for DK’s new giroAPI scheme with our support and assisting with the implementation of wero.
Expansion of the test laboratory
The SRC test laboratory has also achieved impressive milestones this year. These include, for example:
- DAkkS accreditation CC: Our test laboratory was accredited to ISO 17025 at the beginning of the year – an important step in preparation for the EUCC.
- EPI recognition: The recognition received from the European Payments Initiative (EPI) enables SRC to carry out security assessments under the EPI scheme wero for mobile digital wallets in payment apps, among other things.
- NESAS recognition: As part of the recognition procedure as a NESAS test center, five SRC employees successfully demonstrated their expertise in the field of NESAS CCS-GI to the BSI in December and are now listed by the BSI as NESAS evaluators.
Post-quantum cryptography and cryptoagility
The challenges of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) are another field in which SRC has been active this year.
- Our colleague Dr. Sedric Nkotto gave an exciting presentation on side-channel attacks on crystals-dilithium at the ID:SMART workshop.
- Our participation in working groups and workshops such as the Teletrust AG Kryptoagilität, the CAST community, the ECC Brainpool and the Mathematics of Post-Quantum Cryptography Conference demonstrates our commitment to establishing quantum-safe systems.
Cyber security in space
One particular highlight was our membership of the Alliance for Cyber Security‘s expert group on cyber security in space. Increasing digitalization and networking in space are placing new demands on IT security – a challenge that we are meeting with enthusiasm.
Advancing digitalization in the healthcare sector
One focus in the healthcare sector is the further development of gematik’s telematics infrastructure. In addition to the ePA for all, which is to be available to all insured persons from 2025, this year’s focus was on the further development and approval of TI gateways. These play a key role in the digitalization of the healthcare sector by enabling secure access paths for applications such as electronic patient records and prescriptions. SRC has made a decisive contribution to the development and implementation of innovative solutions that create the basis for a networked and secure healthcare system.
A look ahead
2024 was a year in which we once again demonstrated our position as an industry leader in the areas of payments, cryptography and cyber security. These achievements would not have been possible without the passion, commitment and innovation of our outstanding team. Together, we are setting standards and shaping the future of the industry, helping to make our customers’ IT and information security products and services more secure.
