CAST ID:SMART 2026

For decades, the CAST ID:SMART workshop has been one of the few formats that bring together technical depth, standardization and practice in the field of digital identities. The topic will remain highly topical in 2026, not because of new buzzwords, but because of real implementation and testing requirements.

Why CAST e.V. and ID:SMART remain significant

For over 30 years, CAST e.V. has stood for applied IT security research at the interface between industry, administration and science.
The ID:SMART Workshop – formerly known as the Smartcard Workshop – is not a conference format for glossy slides, but a working platform for those who have to design, evaluate, test and classify identity solutions from a regulatory perspective.

The focus is on electronic identities across their entire lifecycle – from cryptographic foundations, interoperability and compliance to concrete implementations in areas such as wallets, ID documents, IoT, mobility and government services.

SRC for ID:SMART 2026

SRC is not only represented with technical contributions in 2026, but also supports the workshop at program level as a member of the advisory board. This proximity to the technical core of the event reflects the aim of classifying developments at an early stage and evaluating them in a technically sound manner.

The SRC lectures:

Jens Oberender
Focus: security-relevant aspects and practical implications of current identity and verification requirements
“Defining the scope for high security assurance in cloud-based products”

WijnandMachielse
Focus: technical depth and implementation perspectives in the context of modern identity systems
Update on “Connecting the dots: How Harmonized Berlin Group Open Finance Standards are empowering EU Digital Identity Wallets with payments and account information services”

Both contributions address real issues from practice – beyond theoretical models or purely regulatory considerations.
